Did you know that podcasts are the fastest growing segment of media consumed? 15 to 20 percent of Americans said that they listened to at least one podcast a month. That is a staggering number of people! And that does not count the millions of people in other countries who are enjoying podcasts. In rough numbers, 45 to 60 million Americans a month consume content via a podcast. Are you one of them?

Why are podcasts becoming so popular? I think there are several reasons.

1. You can download them to your phone and listen at your convenience. Many people will consume podcasts during a run, a gym workout, or their commute. Since they are audio only, podcasts allow us to do two productive things at once.

2. They are educational. Podcasts are quickly becoming an extension of many universities. Some schools have entire semesters of lectures posted in iTunes. You can take college courses in your car or during yo

3. They are entertaining. There are podcasts on iTunes for every interest, hobby, and genre. If you are interested in it, there is probably someone talking about it. There are shows about sports, books, movies, tv shows. There are shows hosted by comedians, actors, and just plain people like me!

4. They are inspirational. Many churches and well known Christian leaders are using the podcast format to get their message out to a larger audience. For me living in Brazil, being able to regularly recharge my spiritual batteries with great preaching and teaching in English is vital. Podcasts also allow the message of the Gospel to slip over the border of those nations where it would be illegal to preach openly.

Of course, I would hope that you would listen to my podcast, Leading and Learning. I talk about a variety of things and my show is usually only 10 to 15 minutes long. There are so many other great shows out there as well. In another post, I will give you some of my favorite podcasts.
