Bad Decisions= A Bad Life

“People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.”

Have you ever met anyone like this? Maybe you are related to one of them. As a Police Officer and a Pastor, I have spent my entire life talking to people like this.

“Why did my wife take the kids and leave me?” Maybe because you are an alcoholic with violent mood swings?

“Why did God let me get lung cancer?” Maybe because you have smoked two packs of cigarettes a day for the last thirty years?

“Why did God take my husband at such a young age? Maybe because he was fifty pounds overweight and never met an All-U-Can-Eat Buffet he did not like?

“Why did God let my teenage daughter get pregnant?” Maybe because…look there was only one Virgin Birth. All others are the result of biology.

You get the picture. Life can be rough. Life can throw some curveballs. Sometimes bad things do happen to good people. That is the result of living in a fallen world. Most of the time, however, people get the kind of life that they have chosen. They have consistently made bad decisions and then seem shocked when the bottom falls out beneath them.

For those of us in Law Enforcement, this translates into Job Security. For those of us who are Pastors, we have the opportunity to help people learn to make good decisions. It is a slow process to change the way that people think. If they are willing, however, we can take them on the Journey to a new life.

Have you ever talked to someone like this? What kind of advice would you offer them?
