Matt and Sarah Shackleford

It has been a busy couple of weeks in Curitiba! Our daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Matt, came down and spent ten days with us. We were able to slip away to the beach for a couple of days and got to show them some of the sights around Curitiba. Matt and Sarah are the youth pastors at C3 Church in Atlanta. Matt spoke to the youth here this past weekend.

While Matt and Sarah were still here, Pastor Dean Sweetman, dropped in for a few days. Dean is the senior pastor for C3 Church in Atlanta and North Hollywood, California. He and his wife, Jill, are also the regional overseers for all the C3 Churches in North and South America. He tries to get to Brazil once or twice a year.

We had three great meetings with Pastor Dean. He met with the leadership team for C3 Curitiba and shared some great leadership insights over a traditional Brazilian barbecue. We then had two meetings with Dean at the Universidade Positivo, one of the local universities. They were kind enough to let us use one of their auditoriums.

Annie, Dean, and MeDean did one session on “Generation Y- The Frustrated Generation.” We opened this session to the university students and had some drop in. Dean talked about how important it is for older leaders to understand the Gen Y crowd. If we are going to effectively reach them with the Gospel, we have to know how they think. The Millennials have incredible leadership potential that is often untapped by older leaders. Dean also addressed the importance of the Millennials’ need to learn from those older leaders who have gone before them.

The second night, Dean spoke on “Every Christian Can be a Leader.” We invited several other pastors to both of these sessions. It was great to see at least five other churches represented in these meetings. Pastor Fabio, the senior pastor of C3 Church Santos, was able to come down as well.

We had such a great time with Sarah and Matt. Six months is a long time to go without seeing your kids! It was also wonderful to catch up with Pastor Dean. He is always encouraging and we are honored to work with such incredible leaders.

Would you consider being a part of our team as we serve here here in Brazil? Here is the link. Obrigado! (Thank you!)
