Habit or Intervention?

“Habits beat interventions every time.” Seth Godin

“…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2: 12-13)

We all want quick solutions to life’s problems. That is normal. No one likes pain and we look for the thing that will remove that pain and discomfort quickly.

Why wait until the doctor tells me I have to lose thirty pounds?

Why wait until I’ve maxed out three credit cards before I realize I have a problem with my spending?

Why wait until I get arrested for a DUI because I kept saying I could control my drinking?

As Christians we have the Holy Spirit inside of us, but he allows us to create the kind of life that we want to live. He is ready to help us, however, if we will yield ourselves to him. He wants to conform us into the image of Christ.

That will never happen, though, if we are constantly needing interventions in our life. Let’s work on creating Godly habits that give the Holy Spirit something to work with inside of us!
