How Do You Mark Your Path?

“Jacob set up a stone pillar to mark the place where God had spoken to him. Then he poured wine over it as an offering to God and anointed the pillar with olive oil.”

When you look back over Jacob’s interesting and checkered life, there is a trail of markers that he set up to mark the times when God had spoken to him. Jacob did not always get it right and made more than his fair share of mistakes but he did understand the importance of noting the pivotal moments of his life. Those life-changing encounters with God deserved more than just being filed in the back of his mind. For Jacob, a true encounter with the Living God required a lasting memorial and a sacrifice.

How do we commemorate those special times with God? It is easy in a culture that encourages living from experience to experience, to forget and minimize true spiritual experiences. It might be as simple as keeping a journal in which we record our spiritual journey. It might mean keeping an electronic journal on your iPhone or your computer. What about your goals and dreams? Do you write those down anywhere? However you choose to do it, let’s make sure that we put some markers down along our way.

Do you keep a journal? What are some other ways that we can commemorate some of the things God has done in our lives?
