How Can You Have Peace?

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

I trust that you are doing well in these challenging times. It seems like everyday something else is popping up on the horizon for us to be concerned about. There is such a spirit of fear, worry, and anxiety all around us. Isn’t it good to know that when the world is screaming that we should be afraid, God’s Word tells us something else? God’s Word reminds us over and over that we can trust our Heavenly Father.

The verses above are some of my favorite and they remind me that when I feel fear, worry, or anxiety, that should prompt me to take the situation in prayer to God. And believe me, I have to do that a lot! Some days, I find myself praying this passage over and over. God’s peace is real and powerful, though, and can calm the storm going on around us. Faith-filled prayer defeats fear every time!

When the news, social media, and even our friends tells us that we need to be worried, let’s make sure that we stay connected with God and our Christian family. God created us for community and we need each other like never before! This is a great time to pick up the phone and call someone we haven’t spoken to in a while. It’s a great time to get into God’s Word. It’s a great time to participate in Sunday worship services and a weekly small group.

If you are a follower of Christ, I would especially encourage you to look for ways to speak life to those around you. You may be working at home but can speak faith to your family members. Let’s look for opportunities to be encouraging and let’s make sure that we are the ones who are positive and upbeat. God is still on his throne and Jesus is still Lord!
