Story of the Week

Ok, I’ll admit that this week’s Third Place Story is not for the faint of heart. Man in Virginia Uses Cable to Decapitate Self After Argument With Ex-Wife. This guy really put a lot of thought into this. He and his ex-wife were having a domestic dispute. He went out and attached a metal cable to a tree, got into his SUV and hooked the other end of the cable around his neck. When the police arrived, the suicidal man hit the accelerator of his vehicle. He was snatched out window, with his body going one way, and his head the other. Two thoughts: 1. Why would he kill himself over his ex-wife? She is his ex. It is over. He got rid of her or she got rid of him. 2. I guess he showed her who was the boss.

This weeks Second Place goes to US Authorities Investigate Incursion By Mexican Federal Police. This is not the first time this has happened. These kinds of stories are starting to become much more frequent. This one, though, is especially embarrassing. This time the Mexican Federales supposedly drove across the border, encountered some Texans hunting, fired a few rounds, stole the hunters chairs, and then drove back to Mexico. Guys, you are Texans. Remember the Alamo and all that. Why did you let some Mexicans embarrass you like that? Texans rise up! Protect your borders, especially since the Federal Government is not going to do it. Maybe they need a new hunting season over there. How about selling a hunting license for Federales?

And how about this weeks winning story from California? School Superintendent Gives Up $800k in Pay. This story definately deserves to be Number One this week. Fresno County School Superintendant Larry Powell is giving up his salary for the next three years. He agreed to accept what a starting teacher makes, about $31,000 a year. Why would anyone do such a crazy thing? Mr. Powell saw the budgetary problems that the school district was having and decided to take a concrete step to give back to his community. He said, “Our goal has never been to have things,” Powell said of himself and his wife, Dot. “We want to give back.” God bless you, Mr. Powell. You have shown us what true generosity looks like.

What do you think of Superintendent Powell’s actions?
