Story of the Week

Animal stories were big again this week. The Third Place Award goes to Naked Animal Hoarder Had Alligator, Iguanas, Dogs, Rats, Roosters and More. The Philadelphia man told police that he worked for the CIA. Witnesses said the smell coming from the house was unbearable. There were numerous dead animals mixed among the living that contributed to the smell. And you get upset because your neighbor doesn’t cut his grass for a couple of weeks? How would you like to live next to this? It does kind of sound like a new TLC Reality Show: “The Naked Animal Hoarder.”

Second Place goes to this story from down under: Austrailian Police Pepper Spray Angry Kangaroo. In Charleville, Queensland, Austrailia, a 94 year old woman was attacked by a kangaroo as she was hanging out her laundry. For my younger readers, we have not always had clothes dryer machines. Laundry can be hung outside for it to dry. I know, it is hard to imagine.

The elderly woman received non-life threatening injuries from the aggressive animal. When the police arrived, the kangaroo charged the first officer who gave him a face full of pepper spray. The animal charged the second officer and was sprayed a second time. At last reports, the animal is still hopping across the Outback looking for easier victims to assault.

This story is especially meaningful to me because I once had an officer get attacked by an aggressive rooster. It was not discouraged by a kick from his size 10 combat boots and tried to peck and claw this crime fighter. He hosed it down with pepper spray and had Animal Control arrest the violent animal. I think it got the Death Penalty.

And the Story of the Week’s Winner is: Tiger Suit Congressman Urged to Resign. Oregon representative, David Wu, is involved in a sex scandal with an 18 year old girl. That is not the wierd part and it is not his first sex scandal. The wierd part is the fact that he likes to dress up in a tiger costume and send the picture out over Twitter.

Wu has served 7 terms as a congressman. His last sex scandal came to light during the 2004 campaign and he still got elected. I think he was running against Charles Manson.

The tiger suit, though, finally got him. His own staff urged him to seek psychiatric help after those pics came out. How does someone like this keep getting elected? Maybe his constituents are crazier than he is? Seven terms, probably a pension for life, is it any wonder that politicians are viewed on a scale to be below your good old fashioned drug dealer?

My suggestion to Mr. Wu is that instead of a tiger suit, next time he should try tiger blood. It has worked for Charlie Sheen. Right?
